Eat Yourself Slim On Your Birthday

birthday cupcake

This weekend, I celebrated my birthday.

And for the first time in 38 years, I did not have a birthday cake. At least, not in the traditional sense.

You see, this year I am 49 lbs down of my 50 lb weight loss goal and quite honestly, I want to reach my goals more than I want to eat cake.

But birthdays are a special occasion and I do believe that you should never deny yourself.

The feeling that you *cannot* have something is the fastest way to crazy cravings. And then the cycle begins… non-stop thinking of food, feeling miserable and face-planting into the nearest [insert your food of choice].

This year, instead of buying a family-sized factory produced, fondant and buttercream creation from the supermarket (that would see me sneaking back for ‘just one more slice’ for the duration of the next week),  I went for total and utter indulgence, in a perfect portion-for-one cupcake.

I believe that success with healthy eating comes from pleasure.
Pleasure from every mouthful that you eat.

Now tell me, what would you prefer?

Slice after slice of bland vanilla sponge supermarket-cake-in-a-box, OR
…. a single melt-in-the-mouth rich and decadent cupcake? One entire cupcake. No more. No less. No going back for 2nds or 3rds. Just ONE awesome cupcake.

It’s a no-brainer, right?
And that is exactly what I did.

Do you want to stay on track with your weight loss plan on your birthday?
Ditch the cake and eat (one) cupcake.
Your head, your heart and your waist line will thank you.

I would love for you to enjoy some birthday cake with me today, too.

But wait, there’s a catch!

You have to find the BEST cake (or dessert) of your choice.
Put it on a plate, sit down at a table and eat without any distractions.
Put your fork down between bites (yep, no shovelling it in :)) and really luxuriate in the experience.

Anyone else celebrating this week?

xoxo Natalie

Very good plan, I hope it pays off on weigh in! My issue is that I can’t just cook one cake! I have a terrible habit of eating while cooking too!

Oh I did not bake these cupcakes – for the exact same reason you mention!

I picked these up at a cute little bakery near to me. One for each of the family and no leftovers to sabotage my weight loss.

So far, the scales are looking good :)

I often enjoy one decadent cupcake a lot more than slice after slice of actual Birthday cake. Your cake looks awesome! Happy Birthday! x

I’d choose quality over quantity any time. Ten minutes of one piece of cake always feels better than one gulp of five pieces of cake. If you asked me I wouldn’t know how much calories is there in anything, the simple reason being – I don’t give a rat’s arm. Counting calories is obsolete, it’s 21st century for crying out loud. It’s about quality, not quantity, as well as the way it’s consumed. I lost 20lbs this summer eating cupcakes and chicken burgers, with just a few rules of Loaded Gun Diet.

Hey Mark, huge congrats on the 20 lb weight loss… that’s gotta be feeling good!

I’ve not counted a single calorie in my weight loss journey – ain’t nobody got time for that! And I totally agree, quality wins hands down every single time.

I’ve not heard of the Loaded Gun Diet, but I’ll go Google to find out more.

      Thanks for stopping by!
