There are so many things I look forward to at this time of year.

My first Starbucks gingerbread latte of the season, the Coco Cola truck arriving… and a tear-jerking Christmas advert from John Lewis.

(Yes, I shed a tear at last year’s snowman advert).

John Lewis Christmas Advert, 2013

The Bear and the Hare

Set in a beautiful forest, this advert tells the story of two faithful friends, Bear and Hare, who are sad at the thought of being separated this Christmas.

Bear has never seen Christmas and as the first signs of winter begin to draw in, he cannot hold off his hibernation any longer and disappears off to his cave, ready for his long winter sleep.

Without Bear, Hare is sad and struggles to join in the festivities with his forest friends, until he has the idea of leaving Bear a mystery gift – an alarm clock – this Christmas. Bear wakes just in time to gather round a beautifully decorated tree with his friends.

When it comes to Christmas adverts, John Lewis just know how to tug at the heart-strings, and their music choice always superb. This year, Lily Allen has nailed it with her beautiful version of Keane’s hit, ‘Somewhere Only We Know’.

Such a touching story of first Christmas excitement and the importance of friendship and thoughtfulness. Great advert, JL !

For me, it finally feels like Christmastime when the Christmas adverts start airing.

What makes you start to feel all Christmassy? Tell me in the comments below!

I’m afraid I’m a bit whatever about the John Lewis Christmas advert this year, kept here all this good stuff about it and finally saw it tonight and thought it was just OK, I’m sounding like a cold hearted woman aren’t I?!

What makes me feel Christmassey? I love the movies on TV at this time of the year, the songs in shops and the decorations up everywhere, this year our little girl is three and is really in to it all!

Karen, you know, the first time I saw the advert I was a little “meh”. But, when I re-watched and took notice of the storyline, it melted my heart!

Our daughter is just a few months older than yours… such a magical age at Christmas time, isn’t it!
